A screen recording is the heart of most demos, and Yarn’s recorder gets you one in a few clicks. Ask the Agent: “Record my screen.” · “Record my screen and camera.” The recorder opens in the mode you asked for, and you can switch modes there before you start.

Give Yarn permission to record

The first time, your Mac needs to let Yarn record.
  1. In Recording Setup, click Open Settings next to Accessibility, and turn Yarn on. Then do the same for Screen Recording.
  2. If you use your camera, do the same for Camera and Microphone in Device Setup.
  3. If your Mac asks you to quit and reopen Yarn, do it, then start recording again.

Do it yourself

  1. Click Add Demo → Manual Recording, or press D and pick it from the list. The Yarn window hides and the recorder opens.
The Add Demo menu above the insert bar, with Product Animation and Manual Recording
  2. Pick a mode, then click the record button, or press ⌘⇧Enter.
  3. Walk through your product, then click the red stop button, or press ⇧Escape.
The recorder's four mode buttons above the record button and Cancel
The recorder has four modes, from left to right: Changed your mind before you start? Click Cancel to close the recorder. Made a mistake while recording? Click ↻ (Restart recording), just right of the stop button, to throw the take away and start again.

Where it lands

When you stop, Yarn comes back and the recording drops onto the timeline at the playhead. You get a screen recording, plus a camera clip if your camera was on.
Close notifications and tidy your browser tabs before you start. Your viewers will see everything on screen.
