Nobody wants to watch a page load. Trim the waiting so your demo keeps up with your story. Ask the Agent: “Cut the dead time in my screen recording.” · “Skip the part where the page is loading.” · “Speed up the screen recording a little.”

Sync points

Sync points are the best way to speed up or slow down part of a recording. Each one pins a moment in the recording to a time in your video. Drag one, and Yarn speeds up or slows down the footage on each side of it, so that moment lands exactly where you want, like when your narration mentions it.
  1. Select the screen recording to see its sync points.
  2. Drag one left or right. Hover it first to preview that moment.
To add one, move the playhead to the moment and press ⌘S, or right-click the recording and choose Add Sync Point.
Right-click a sync point for Duplicate or Remove. To undo all your sync point changes, right-click the recording and choose Reset to original time. Skips and Playback Rate stay as they are.

Speed for the whole recording

  • Select the screen recording and set Playback Rate in the top bar, from 0.5× to 15×.
  • Or hold ⌘ and drag the recording’s edge on the timeline. It speeds up or slows down instead of trimming.

Skips

A skip cuts a stretch out of the recording.
  1. Right-click the screen recording where the skip should start and choose Add Skip…, or move the playhead there and press ⌘E.
  2. Move the pointer to size the skip, then click to add it. Press Escape to cancel.
To change a skip, click its marker on the recording (Edit Skip) and drag its edges. To bring the footage back, click the marker, then right-click the skip and choose Remove Skip.

Freezes

When you slow part of a recording right down, Yarn may hold a frame instead. That’s a freeze. Drag its handle to make it longer or shorter, or right-click it and choose Remove Freeze. Related: Zooms · Clips and scenes
